Parents and Guardians,

I would like to welcome parents and students to the 2022/2023 school year. The teachers have been working hard all summer long to make their classes more engaging. We are all really excited to see the students in the hallways once again. Everyone in education is in education for one reason and that is to work with kids. The students bring the school alive and make teaching so rewarding.

The Laurel Middle School is an ICU school. What that means is the teachers work really hard on making sure all assignments are extra practice for the students to learn the standards the teachers are suppose to teach. The entire school works hard to help ensure all students get the extra practice done to help ensure the students learn. We have multiple opportunities for students to study more for test or complete work. We have lunch ICU, after school ICU, Saturday ICU and if needed before school ICU. The extra practice not only helps the students, but also gives the teachers a formative assessment on the students proficiency on the standards being taught. We will be sending out text messages and emails to parents if the student is on the ICU list as well as text messages and emails when the assignment is completed.

Finally, do not hesitate to call or email if you have any questions or need any help. This can be a difficult time for many students and it is important we work together to make this a positive experience for all students. Please do not wait until you have reached frustration level. Open communication is key to all successful relationships, and I strive to have a successful relationship with all parents and guardians.

I hope everyone has a great 2022/2023 school year.
